Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Mackay people can witness movie music as 'Art'-form 

Screen music composer Art Phillips will lead Mackay musicians to provide a live soundtrack for a variety of silent movie scenes, next Friday evening (May 10).

Mackay people are welcome to attend the free event, from 8pm at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music Theatre.

PhotoID:82 Art is president of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and is currently involved with scoring and producing for production music libraries. During the past six years, he has released 30 CD titles in a diverse range array of styles.

The Emmy-winning and AFI-nominated composer, now based in Sydney, has produced material for Neighbours, The Flying Vet, The Love Boat, Santa Barbara, The Fatal Bond and Sher Mountain Mystery.

Art has been the musical director, conductor and orchestrator on live concert tours for such artists as Demis Roussos, John Rowles, Ricky May and Dorey Previn. He has produced records for Sally Kellerman, Demis Roussos, Barry Manilow and John Rowles.

Earlier in his career, Art Phillips was best known as one of Los Angeles' top session guitarists, recording for Barry Manilow, Minnie Riperton, Teena Marie, Demis Roussis, The Carpenters, Smokey Robinson and Burl Ives, to name a few.

Now an industry mentor for Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Art is visiting Mackay for two weeks. He is conducting masterclasses in guitar and seminars on orchestration and arrangement. ENDS Details available from Ian Bofinger via 07 4940 7814 or 07 4940 7800
