PhD student shares insight into why Chinese students study in Oz

CQU doctoral candidate Molly Yang discussed with delegates at an international conference why Chinese students turn to Australia for higher education.

Ms Yang presented her first paper at the First Global Conference: The value of knowledge in Sydney last week.

PhotoID:3853 First Global Conference: The value of knowledge explored the philosophy of education, life-long learning, the internet, the objectification of knowledge and the social and cultural factors that underline the values that underwrite the structures and practices of education in an effort to show the place knowledge holds in today’s society.

Ms Yang presented a paper on her first research project – why mainland Chinese students study in Australia. She had a chance to exchange research ideas with all delegates at the conference.

Ms Yang was among PhD students, scholars, and experienced researchers from India, Iran, Israel, Pakistan, Japan, South Africa, Germany, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Australia at the conference.

“I was very excited to present my first paper at the conference. I was nervous when I presented it in front of so many leading scholars from the region and overseas,” she explained.

“I learned so much from the 3-day conference. It was a great experience to learn from others,” Ms Yang said.
