Leading technical professional institute starts CQU student branch

Under the initiative of Dr Amoakoh Gyasi-Agyei at the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Health, CQU has recently inaugurated a student branch of the IEEE (Institute for Electrical & Electronic Engineers).

The IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of engineering and technology, and it's a global organisation.

The inaugural meeting was held at CQU Rockhampton on April 5 this year.

On the inaugural day, 20 CQU students, from varying disciplines including engineering, information technology and science and associated disciplines, signed up to be IEEE student members.

Dr Gyasi-Agyei said that, since IEEE is one of the foremost respected professional organisations in the world, "we at CQU are proud to host a student branch locally to enable our students to broaden their scope of professionalism and perspectives".

CQU students in the fields of interest to the IEEE are welcome to join the IEEE.

"Having a student branch of the IEEE at CQU brings many advantages to the University and its staff and students," Dr Gyasi-Agyei said. "For example, this is a relevant advertising tool to improve our international students numbers in the long-term, especially international postgraduate students".
