Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

New options for up-skilling of employees 

Always a leader in distance education, Central Queensland University is offering a suite of new courses geared to people already in the workforce.

The new degrees can be completed without disrupting work commitments and will in many cases enhance employees' value to their workplace.

Employees can self-pace their study load while choosing distance education or a mix of distance and on-campus study.

The new Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification will help combat a severe shortage of qualified staff, which is threatening to strangle Queensland's development.

Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Learning Design (now available by distance) is relevant to a wide range of industries, since it enables professionals to teach in their areas of expertise.

The Bachelor of Digital Innovation and Bachelor of Professional Communication also have application to a huge range of business and industrial settings.

The Bachelor of Nursing degree, applicable across a wide range of health industries, is now also available in a new distance education format.

New distance education options in the area of mining, transport and engineering include the Bachelor of Engineering, the Associate Degree of Mine Operations Management (Specialisation), Associate Degree of Mine Technology (Specialisation), the Bachelor of Engineering Technology and the Bachelor of Engineering Technology/Bachelor of Business.

New distance education options in Arts include the Bachelor of Arts (Specialisation), the Bachelor of Arts (Specialisation)/Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Arts (Specialisation)/Bachelor of Business and the Bachelor of Arts (Specialisation)/Bachelor of Learning Management (Secondary and Vocational Education and Training).
