Grace Knight on track for first CQCM Jazz Tour

Internationally renowned jazz/blues vocalist Grace Knight will embark on her first tour that relies on rail transport when she performs with Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music members from June 29. Over 20 student, staff and community members will join the 4th annual Jazz Tour that begins in Noosa. Ms Knight said the week-long event provided an ideal opportunity to work with young and aspiring musicians.

PhotoID:775 “It is a unique tour and outside of my comfort zone, so I’m looking forward to the challenge of something different,” she said.

“I’m really excited about being able to work with the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music Jazz Orchestra – it is going to be an amazing train ride.” Ms Knight may use the QR Tilt Train journey from Noosa to Townsville to pen a few tracks or master card playing.

“I will use the extra time to enjoy Queensland’s beautiful landscape and I’m looking forward to learning to play a few different card games.” CQCM Jazz Studies Co-ordinator Glen Hodges said the major collaboration between broadcast media and jazz musicians provided an invaluable experience for the students.

“This is professional playing experience of the highest kind as students will be playing with major internationally profiled artists,” he said.

ABC Radio’s latest recording artist Sharny Russell will perform on the tour, which also includes two live ABC Radio broadcasts. Bookings for an additional concert on Hamilton Island on July 7 can be made by telephoning 4946 9999.
