Distance students offered a study smorgasbord

A “Study Smorgasbord” was held at the Gladstone campus this week for Central Queensland University’s distance students. CQU lecturer, Muriel Strahm said that there are approximately 200 students who live in Gladstone but who study from home because of work or family commitments.

"This information night was held to give the distance students the opportunity to discover the Gladstone campus’ facilities, meet local study support staff and meet with other external students," said Ms Strahm Student Association Officer, Peter Naylor said that many of the faculties have adopted remote internet based teaching techniques meaning that the opportunity to participate in a face to face workshop was very well received.

“The students got the chance to meet other students and a lot of networks were created on the night.

“Some of the students couldn’t believe the services we offer them and were really happy to be involved in an on-campus event,” said Mr Naylor.

Students who attended on the night attended workshops on writing skills, referencing, computer help, library information and got to meet with the campus support staff.
