Former CQU student and staff member John Wenitong (pictured) is now senior project officer with the Higher Expectations program of the Cape York Institute for Policy and Leadership.
Macquarie Bank has just entered a 3-year partnership to support the Higher Expectations Program (HEP), which aims to encourage students in remote Indigenous communities to pursue tertiary education.
The Cape York Institute, under the directorship of prominent Indigenous leader Noel Pearson, is a new public policy organisation that champions reform and innovation in Indigenous and social welfare policies.
Mr Pearson was quoted in Wednesday's (Dec 7) Australian newspaper as saying that "sending Aboriginal children to board at exclusive city private schools was vital for them to succeed and would transform their communities".
