Lecturer dances her way to Mackay

After 25 years' experience in dance and theatre, new lecturer Deborah Mills has arrived at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music at CQU Mackay.

Ms Mills will teach Music Theatre students in the areas of dance, acting, production and studies in form.

PhotoID:1703 The newcomer has worked as a dancer, choreographer, director and teacher in the method of Luigi Modern Jazz Dance Technique and was originally trained by Luigi in Italy and New York.

“The Luigi Technique is a performance preparation skill that teaches students alignment, flexibility and strength that will enhance their performances,” Ms Mills said.

Her journey through dance and choreography has included teaching in Europe; an International Choreographic Competition in Milan, Italy; a performance at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland and several productions in various theatres in Sydney where she co-directed planning an experimental hybrid performance group.

Ms Mills completed her Masters degree in Arts with honours and is currently scheduled to work on her PhD in 2006. She has also developed a unique way of working props.

“My performers work in an organic interaction with the multi-functioning prop to create what I term 'moving metaphors'.".

Ms Mills will be directing 'The Threepenny Opera' by Brecht & Weill, scheduled for performances on April 21-23.
