University students revel in the new 'O' week

Gladstone's newest university recruits have been learning all about the survival techniques required.

Without the traditional drinking competitions anywhere in sight (although there was an ice-cream eating competition) the emphasis has been on study techniques and where to go for help.

CQUniversity Guidance Officer Sherie Elliot has been excited about the number of students turning up for the sessions and their enthusiasm for the journey ahead.

"All of the students are so keen to get started and it is great to see so many parents and supporters coming along as well," she said.

"After all it is the parents and supporters who are so critical in helping the student to get through. And our survivor competition with lots of great prizes sponsored by local businesses is also a lot of fun with a serious twist to it."
