Central Queensland University hosted mid-year orientation activities this week with more than 300 offers made to new students to start their study mid-year at CQU’s Central Queensland campuses and by distance education.
Forty-one offers were made to students to commence study in Winter term on-campus in Rockhampton, while 27 offers were made for Bundaberg, 18 for Mackay and 10 for Gladstone. A total of 224 offers were made to students wanting to studying by distance.
Mid-year orientation activities were staged at CQU Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Mackay and Gladstone this week, as well as Learning Network Queensland in Brisbane for students studying by distance in the Brisbane area.
CQU Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Glenice Hancock said Orientation Week provided an exciting opportunity for new students to meet other students and staff members and to become familiar with the range of services and facilities available.
As part of today’s orientation, students took part in skills for academic success workshops, information technology training and a campus tour hosted by student mentors.
“We are fortunate in having a very successful student mentor program at CQU, a program which other universities seek to follow,” Professor Hancock said.
“Student mentors are experienced students who have been pleased to donate their time and knowledge to help new students make the transition to university life.
Meanwhile, mid-year enrolments are ongoing at CQU’s international campuses at Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Student mentor Izzy Geritz gave new CQU student Cathy Matheson an insight into university during an Orientation Day campus tour.
