Japanese students display their beautiful smiles and kimonos at last year's CQU Multicultural Fair and Open Day.Central Queensland University is gearing up to host the region's biggest annual community event, the CQU Multicultural Fair and University Open Day.

Promising a range of multicultural food, music and entertainment along with some exciting Open Day interactive displays and market stalls, it is expected the event will attract thousands of visitors to CQU Rockhampton on Sunday August 12 from 10am to 4pm.

The Multicultural Fair is famous for its food stalls and this year will include tastes from 12 different nations, including Australia, Bangladesh, China, Thailand, Laos, the Torres Strait, South Sea Islands, Holland, Mexico, Japan, Italy, as well as Hare Krishna food.

The Baparrdu dancers will perform the welcome dance, which will be followed by the opening ceremony, citizenship ceremony and parade of national dress.

Sirocco returns again to the Multicultural Fair for an arrangement of exotic, world music distilling the best from Australia's heritage and producing a unique style of their own.

An interactive music and dance stage will host acts such as Wali Suma de los Andes, the Capricorn Dance Exchange, the Folly Foot Line Dancers, the Bushmill Band, Sabaya Belly Dancers, blues musician Patrick Kehoe and the Biorhythms.

The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music's big band and solo acts will also showcase their talent on the main stage and host their own stage at the University amphitheatre.
