CQU Gold Coast student Pablo Safina, from Chile, aims to account for himself in October's gruelling Hawaiian Ironman competition, having qualified via major events in Australia.
The fulltime Master of Professional Accounting student has successfully juggled his studies with his passion for the sport featuring swimming, running and cycling.
Training up to 30 hours a week, his preparation has included lead-up events such as the Byron Bay Ironman on May 11 (in which he placed 2nd in his age group and 16th overall out of 700 competitors).
Other leadups include the Gold Coast marathon in July and a Half Ironman in Yeppoon (Pablo won the Half Ironman series last year).
Pablo counts himself fortunate to be training with a team of elite athletes on the Gold Coast - home to some of the leading competitors on the global triathlon circuit.
The gruelling Ironman events include a 3.8km swim followed by a 180km bike ride, finishing with a marathon run which covers a staggering 42km.
