CQU Computer Systems Update; As of 430PM, Monday 4 November
Published on 04 November, 2002
A small fire Friday night at the Rockhampton campus affected servers and other computing and communications equipment within the Central Queensland University community. Systems are expected to be fully back on-line by the middle of the week.
The equipment that supplies "clean" electrical power to the central computing systems was destroyed in the blaze. Computer information systems require "filters" that protect them from surges or reductions in power supply.
"We have a temporary fix in place, but we expect some services including email and some student resources will be intermittent this week until a new uninterruptible power supply is installed, which may not occur until Wednesday or Thursday," said a university spokesman.
As of 430PM Monday, the only disruption affected about 700 staff who were without university email services.
"We've made arrangements that should allow most people to access most things most of the time. Our students, especially our distance-based students, should know that we're working to get all systems permanently back on line as soon as possible."
