Bundaberg program builds educational bridges

Haydn Lancaster was just one of the students who experienced university life this week in a program tailored in partnership with North Bundaberg High School and CQU Bundaberg to help OP (Uni) Eligible students with the transition between year 12 and university.

"The program aims to open their eyes more widely to what university life might entail and what the university culture asks of first year students as well as what CQU has to offer" said Coordinator Karen Seary.

Approximately 63 students arrived on campus as part of the program.

Haydn, who is a year 12 student at North Bundaberg High School, hopes to study a Bachelor of Exercise Science after finishing high school.

"I play a lot of sport; hockey, cricket, swimming. I'd love to be part of a sporting club doing rehabilitation," he says.

While on campus, students were treated to a campus tour, cake and testimonial from past student and current Marketing Coordinator for the University, Emma Nock.

"This has been a great program. It gives you an inside look into what university is like. I'd recommend it to anybody looking at doing university; it gives you a lot of info as well as practical experience" Haydn said.

This week was just one of the 4 planned sessions, with the remaining 3 sessions planned for the May 13, May 27 and June 10.
