CQU's first Indigenous PhD graduate Maria Raciti is among 210 Australian teachers to receive citations for outstanding contributions to student learning.
Her Carrick Award citation recognises her for 'creating a successful relational learning environment for business students of all abilities".
Dr Raciti is currently working as a lecturer at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where she also won the USC Teaching Medal (worth $3000) this year.
She described the national award as "icing on the cake".
The Carrick citations, worth $10,000 each, were recently announced as the part of the 2006 Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching, and CQU STEPS teacher Jenny Simpson was also on the list.
Ms Raciti, who moved from Mackay to Rockhampton in 1991 to study at CQU, was among 8 researchers awarded a PhD from CQU during graduations in 2004.
The former North Mackay High School student also earned a CQU Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree, received First Class Honours and was presented with Faculty scholarship and an Australian Postgraduate Award.
CQU Associate Professor Tony Ward supervised Ms Raciti’s Honours and PhD research.
