Uni and cycling club sign up for more success

CQUniversity and Rockhampton Cycling Club have literally 'signed up' for more success, with a joint revamp of the billboard on Berserker Street.

The new signage recognises the University's sponsorship and also reinforces the name of the Kenrick Tucker Velodrome (originally named in 1978 to recognise his early success, which led to Commonwealth Games gold).

It was fitting that Kenrick and his father Ken Tucker (a long-time cycling coach) were both present for the unveiling, along with current club president Mark Dunlop.

The University has built a relationship with the club, recognising the importance of sport in the community and the demonstrated potential of Rockhampton cycling to produce champions.

CQUniversity has sponsored the Rocky Cup on Wheels for the past 6 years and has unearthed several cycling champions through a Talent Identification program.

In other spokes of the relationship, Olympic Champion cyclist Anna Meares has been welcomed as a University ambassador and the cycling club has provided research opportunities for Human Movement Science students.

Representing the potential of youth, Jay Callaghan also attended the unveiling.

The CQUniversity Talent ID program spotted Jay's potential at high-school level and he has since won the Rocky Cup on Wheels and is a member of the Queensland track team.

Jay is now enrolled in a Bachelor of Learning Management (Early Childhood) degree with CQUniversity in Rockhampton. PhotoID:7249, Kenrick Tucker, Ken Tucker, Suzi Blair (CQUniversity) and club president Mark Dunlop
