Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Language Centre to send families to Japan 

Central Queensland University’s Language Centre is celebrating 10 years of providing homestay families for international study tour students.

Study Tour coordinator Helen Stewart said to celebrate the Centre’s 10th birthday the Centre was planning a trip to Japan for homestay families as a thank-you for their support of homestray program and its students.

To assist in reducing costs for this trip, a fundraising dinner has been planned at the Glenmore Homestead this Saturday, 9 November. Sponsors for the event are Dowie’s Bus Service and Glenmore Homestead.

Dowie’s Bus Service will be providing transport to and from the venue departing the Yeppoon Railway Station at 5.30pm and travelling via Yeppoon Road, Norman Road, Dean Street, Kerrigan Street, Yaamba Road, CQU Language Centre, Farm Street, Alexandra Street to the Glenmore Homestead – returning via the same route.

Ms Stewart said patrons can look forward to live music, Aussie tucker, bush dancing and a great time.

Cost is $15 for adults and $7.50 for children 12 years old and under.
