National report says service makes CQU distinctive among all universities

Central Queensland University's level of service makes it distinctive among Australian universities because of the emphasis it places on student outcomes, graduate success and quality teaching, according to a report released this week (Monday, Feb 11), which was written and produced by Hobsons, the editor and publisher of Australia's only university ratings publication, The Good Universities Guide.

The review points out that CQU has outperformed other Queensland universities including the University of Queensland, James Cook University, USQ, Griffith, and QUT in areas critical to students.

"CQU has ... ways to ensure its students achieve their individual goals in their own way -- no matter where or how they study or what path they follow," according to the 8-page independent report, which analyses and compares CQU to all universities in Australia.

  • In the 2008 edition, for example, CQU was the only public university in the state to receive a 5-star rating for Graduate Starting Salaries and Positive Graduate Outcomes.
  • For the last 8 years, CQU has had the highest rating among all public universities in Queensland for Graduate Starting Salaries.
  • CQU is one of just 3 universities across Australia to achieve a 5-star rating (top rating) for Positive Graduate Outcomes for the last 4 years

The editors also describe CQU as one of the most accessible universities in Australia, that its teaching is among the best and that CQU has one of the best performing libraries in Australia.

"This independent report concludes that CQU's extensive support for students, our exclusive integrated workplace learning programs, our expertise in distance education and our overall commitment helps people achieve their goals better than many other universities. It demonstrates how we're leading the state, and the country for that matter, in areas that are vital to student success," explained CQU Vice-Chancellor John Rickard.

The Good Universities Guide's independent assessment of CQU is available and downloadable from the University's homepage: http://www.cqu.edu.au/. Just click on the little blue booklet at the bottom left of the page.
