CQU sporting clubs will battle it out on the golf greens as they compete in the CQU Student Association Golf Championship.

The event, to be held at the Yeppoon Golf Course on Saturday, February 14, will be used to launch the seasons of the winter sporting clubs as well act as a social event for the 10 current affiliates of the CQU Student Association. The event is also open to CQU students and staff as well as teams from the general public. CQU Student Association Sports, Clubs and Events Coordinator Brad Reid said the day would be contested under Ambrose rules with teams of four players competing to allow maximum participation and fun.

“There is a fair bit of rivalry among the clubs, and the sport of golf will be a make it a level playing field considering we have no clubs of that nature affiliated with the CQU Student Association,” Mr Reid said.

CQU Wanderers Hockey Club would enter the Championship as slight favourites, considering the similarities of their sport to golf.

Meanwhile newly affiliated clubs, CQU Panthers Australian Football Club and CQU Shotokan Karate, will be looking to upstage the eldest of the CQU clubs, the CQU Rugby club. Mr Reid said he believed this event was an ideal way to kick off the sporting year and said he hoped it would evolve into an annual season launch.
