People from a range of cultures in the region are being encouraged to join the Parade of Nations at this year’s CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day.

As this year’s theme is “Multiculturalism in the Workplace” coordinator for the Multicultural Fair Gina Yarrow said she would encourage people from all nationalities to get involved.

“We want as many people as possible to be a part of this important event. People are invited to join in the parade and represent their home country and their Aussie workplace,” Ms Yarrow said.

“Participants may want to wear their national dress or their workplace uniform.” Accountant at Kennas Chartered Accountants and Financial Services Amy Chen is looking forward to representing her workplace and sharing her Chinese culture with the thousands of visitors expected to roll out for this year’s Multicultural Fair.

Amy has been a keen participant in the day for a number of years as part of the Parade of Nations and this year also behind the Chinese food stall.

More than 30,000 people are expected to converge on CQU Rockhampton to attend the Multicultural Fair on Sunday August 17.

Ms Yarrow said the event promised first class entertainment for the whole family, as well as a taste of international culture and foods.

“A big drawcard this year will be Grace Knight performing with Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music’s Big Band, as well as Torres Strait Island entertainer Seaman Dan,” Ms Yarrow said. “For the young children, Bananas in Pyjamas are sure to be a huge hit.” A special children’s activity and entertainment area will also operate.

CQ Multicultural Fair is a joint initiative between CQU and ABC Capricornia, with support from The Morning Bulletin.
