"I have my fingers crossed but I am already so happy with my current results," she said.
Malinda completed her degree in 2007 and started teaching music at Moura State School in 2008. She said she found the BLM teaching pracs most valuable.
"There is nothing like getting your hands dirty and learning on the job. You can go through a number of 'possible' scenarios in your head but until you are standing in front of each unique group of students you have no idea exactly on what to do. Through the pracs I gained the courage to have a go at things and I learnt that not all lessons will be a success but as long as you reflect and learn from them you will be ok."
Malinda is now considering further study in the field of drama, to enhance the classroom options for her students.
"I am involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities here such as junior and senior choir, Maryborough Technology Challenge, ANZAC/Remembrance Day ceremonies and school literature leader. I also help students after school who are having trouble with any of their work/assessment.
"I am honored and surprised to have made it to this level (of awards).
"There are many dedicated teachers across the nation that have been working in the profession for years. I was surprised to be named a finalist after only three years' experience and now a recipient of a state award.
"I think it would be a hard job to choose the top 10 aspiring teachers in the nation as there are so many great teachers out there who work tirelessly to make education a success."
