Sights and sounds of Thailand are being showcased during a three-week cultural tour to Central Queensland University Language Centre.
Nineteen high-school students and one teacher from the Universal Cultural Exchange (UCE) Foundation of Thailand are taking part in the cultural exchange.
CQU Language Centre Study Tour representative Mark Ross said the visitors were improving their English skills, sharing their culture and learning more about Australia.
Students are looking forward to meeting Rockhampton residents in a cultural exchange display at Rockhampton Shopping Fair on Thursday, May 2, from 10.30am-11.30am (displays) and from 12.30pm-2pm (concert).
Students will be in traditional dress and activities throughout the day will include music, dancing and displays from different areas of Thailand.
Rockhampton students from The Cathedral College and St Peter's Primary School will participate in the concert. These schools offer a buddy system which enables the Thai students to visit for three days, fostering Aussie-Thai friendships.
Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music's Rockhampton-based performing arts students will also perform during the dance segment.
Mr Ross said it was the fourth year CQU Language Centre had hosted the tours supported by the Thai Government's cultural and tourist department.
"These are a real cultural exchange with the students very interested in sharing information about their culture and absorbing all they can about our culture," Mr Ross said.
He said the visitors were being hosted by Rockhampton home-stay families, helping to extend the exchange of culture into the wider Rockhampton community. ENDS For details call Mark Ross via 4923 2034 or 4930 9603 or Emma Killion on 0412 817 700
