Gladstone celebrates past, present and future of campus

Gladstone community members recently gathered at CQUniversity for a cocktail function (August 1) to celebrate 3 decades of higher education, the present campus resource and its future potential.

The event included awards for David Manttan and Tony Goodwin, in appreciation of their dedication, support and contribution to the Gladstone Advisory Committee over an extended period of time.

It's been 30 years since the then Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education (CIAE) established a campus in Gladstone, on a site in Dawson Road.

The campus later moved to port authority land in the harbour, giving it a prime location amid the rattle and hum of the industrial city.

Friday's event celebrated the past as well as marking the institution's recent change of brand to become known as CQUniversity Australia.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard attended the Gladstone function to explain how the brand makeover follows 2 years of significant administrative and functional overhauls at the University brought on by sector-wide changes in the demand for courses and programs. Head of Campus Dr Pierre Viljoen reflected on opportunities for the future of the campus in concert with major industries on its doorstep and the changing priorities and needs of students.
