Students visit newspaper production facilities

A group of undergraduate and postgraduate students from CQU Gold Coast have visited the new press and newspaper production facilities at their local 'Bulletin' newspaper.

PhotoID:2339 The students were able to see how a newspaper is produced, commencing at the editorial and journalist sections, through to the art and composition stages and onto the production and processing.

The students were also able to see how a modern facility, such as the 'Bulletin' newspaper, effectively co-ordinates its business processes and logistics to maximise its production effectiveness.

The newspaper production line also provides liftouts for other newspapers in Queensland and northern NSW.

The students took the opportunity to ask strategic questions relating to the management and cost centre functions of the business, as well as observing how raw material supplies, maintenance and the newspaper functions operate.

How much paper is used to produce the Saturday edition of the 'Bulletin' newspaper? The equivalent of travelling from the Gold Coast to Cairns!
