Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Graduating engineers present 

More than 160 industry and community members attended Central Queensland University’s annual Graduating Engineers Conference, GECon 2005, last Friday.

The Conference showcased this year’s graduating class projects through audio-visual presentations.

PhotoID:1997 Thirty projects were presented addressing issues such as stormwater drainage designs, the Norman Road/Farm street intersection upgrade, design of a Mt Archer viewing tower, battery life prediction and the design of a solar water heater collector.

“This was our third conference and it is becoming a high priority annual event for all those interested in excellence in engineering,” conference organiser Dr Col Greensill said.

“The conference allows industry representatives to welcome their new colleagues and also provides a recruitment opportunity.”.

About 100 delegates also attended the conference dinner which was held at the Capricorn Lounge and Birdcage Bar on Friday evening.
