Drains, planes and automobiles feature in student showcase

Projects relating to drains, planes and automobiles were among those in a major student showcase, the GECon 2008 Symposium for graduating Bachelor of Engineering and Engineering Technology students.

GECon was held on Friday October 24 at CQUniversity Rockhampton to feature final-year projects of around 25 graduating students.

The annual event has a celebratory flavour since many (if not all) of the presenters will have been offered lucrative jobs, even before completing their degree.

The Symposium gives our graduating students an opportunity to showcase their final-year projects through oral presentations and a collection of posters.

Industry and community members were invited to this forum to witness the level of knowledge and expertise our engineering graduates possess.

This annual event, which commenced in 2002, is getting bigger and better every year and has become a high priority annual event for all those interested in excellence in engineering and staff recruitment.

Most of the projects relate to industry, resources, power systems and transport but there are a few exceptions including studies of rainfall, dental restoration and exercise bikes.

Some in particular relate to storm drains, aircraft (plane) fuelling and traffic (automobile) behaviour in school zones.
