The work of CQUniversity Mackay's third-year Medical Imaging and Sonography students was put on show at a recent Comparative Imaging Student Poster Exhibition...
The students explored novel and emerging ways to diagnose various cancers which were showcased via a poster exhibition in the Medical Imaging Laboratories at CQUniversity.
CQUniversity's Head of Medical Imaging, Sonography & Chiropractic Caroline Falconi with Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging Johnathan Hewis and Caine Miller from Philips Medical. Around 60 visitors including radiographers and health professionals, the community and CQUniversity students attended the exhibition.
Caine Miller, from Philips Medical was the guest speaker for the night and congratulated the students on a fantastic exhibition.
"I've seen some amazing work from the students and the posters are of a really high standard."
"I think it's really important for them to be able to display their projects for a local audience first and this has allowed them to think outside their own course and comfort zone."
CQUniversity's Senior Lecturer & Discipline Lead for Medical Imaging Johnathan Hewis said the exhibition was also a fantastic opportunity for students to network with industry professionals as they were preparing to complete their program at the end of 2014.
Some of the topics included effective ways to screen for breast cancer, a new imaging biomarker for Alzheimer's, the role of PET/CT scanners in diagnosing malignant melanoma, high definition fibre tracking imaging for traumatic brain injury, and evaluation of healing fractures with ultrasound.
