Please RSVP to Dr James Douglas (j.douglas@cqu.edu.au or 4930 9371) by the Monday before the session, which is presented by Healthy Communities at the University.

The session will feature Heather Nancarrow, Director of the Queensland Centre for Family and Domestic Violence Research, CQUniversity, Mackay.

Ms Nancarrow said she would discuss the findings of quantitative research she has conducted with Associate Professor Stewart Lockie and Dr Sanjay Sharma.

"The research was conducted to ascertain the prevalence and nature of male-to-female intimate partner abuse in the Bowen Basin region, and to explore statistically significant correlations between intimate partner abuse and a range of factors, including characteristics of the mining industry," Ms Nancarrow said.

"The research found such correlations with a range of socio-demographic and behavioural factors, as well as severely compromised mental health.  These results have significant implications for intimate partner abuse interventions in the region."
