The F1 in Schools scale model racing competition is designed to encourage young people to consider engineering-related careers, so the University was keen to be involved.
CQUniversity sponsored the tradeshow-style display spaces for each team to display their projects and everyone looked very professional with team uniforms and eye-catching presentations.
The worldwide competition raises awareness of innovation, 3D technology, engineering and design-to-manufacture and also has promotional elements. Teams work on designing, making and racing their CO2-powered model cars using the latest software and manufacturing techniques. They also have to gain sponsorships and create a marketing plan
Event organisers have recognised the contribution by CQUniversity engineering students (Katherine Grigg, Garth Kath, Andrew Nicholson and Madonna Jones) who mentored local high school entrants. Meanwhile, the judging panel also included Engineering students (Matt Lowrey, David Byrne and Tom Craig).
CQUniversity Regional Engagement Committee member Ross Quinn attended the event in a dual capacity as he is also School Council Chair for NRSHS.
Mr Quinn noted that University Council member Tim Griffin OAM has been a "stalwart" of the F1 in Schools initiative over the years.
