Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Writers invited to island workshop 

'Idiom 23' magazine is organising a Writers Workshop "A Sense of Place" to be held at North Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre from Friday April 29 - Sunday May 1 (2005).

PhotoID:1767 "Following our popular Pumpkin Island workshops, this one will be a little different as we are concentrating on Creative Writing and the Environment," coordinator Liz Huf said.

Dr Lynda Hawryluk (pictured) , CQU's new lecturer in literature and creative writing will be Writer in Residence. Lynda is a fiction writer and performance poet and is keen to meet and discuss contemporary writing with the participants. A sense of place and space will be a stimulating topic in the island environment.

Assisting Lynda will be two local published poets Kristin Hannaford and Louise Waller. Louise has produced both performance poetry and plays.

"Kristin has just received two awards for her multimedia poetry 'Wetlands' and 'Byfield' and we hope to see these on the big screen at the workshop".

The NKI Enivornmental Education Centre will handle all catering and has invited the group to stay in the centre's solar powered cabins.
