Senior officials and key staff from across Central Queensland University participated in a 4-hour simulated crisis this week to test CQU's preparedness for on-campus emergencies and critical incidents.
The mock exercise, which was conducted by a leading crisis management expert, involved members of the CQU Crisis Management and Recovery Team and staff posing as students, staff, emergency services, media and external stakeholders.
The Team Leader, John Nelson stated: "CQU not only has a plan in place, but it now has been tested".
Phil Hancock, Emergency Services Coordinator said: "This well coordinated exercise challenged all the members of the Crisis Management and Recovery Team and the ongoing training program will ensure that CQU is well placed to respond effectively in a crisis".
Crisis Response Coordinator Narelle Stubbins agreed the exercise was worthwhile and thanked all those who participated for their support.
There was an extensive debrief session at the conclusion of the exercise to measure the effectiveness of the University's Crisis Management & Recovery Plan, identify weaknesses and enable improvements to systems and procedures.
