National OHS courses come to Rockhampton

Rockhampton’s occupational health and safety workers are reaping the benefits of belonging to a university city by gaining access to nationally-accredited courses.
CQU’s School of Health and Human Performance is providing the public with access to industry-recognised short courses which previously had been reserved for students of CQU’s Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety degree.
Members of the public can study the Workplace Rehabilitation Coordinator Certificate and CPR Re-Accreditation.
CQU students studying Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) are also at an advantage, having the option of gaining their Queensland Workplace Health & Safety Officer’s certification and the Workplace Rehabilitation Coordinator’s Certificate as part of their undergraduate studies.
Coordinator of the short courses, Industry Liaison Officer, Alex Bright said CQU’s OHS students are highly employable, with a 100% employment rate for graduates and higher than average starting salaries.
“Many graduates are finding themselves employed in the mining sector throughout Australia with many new and exciting graduate positions being made available by large mining companies and employment opportunities in exotic locations such as oil rigs in Malaysia and mines in Indonesia and Africa,” Ms Bright said.
“Our students are graduating with tertiary education and industry qualifications; a strong mix that makes them a highly employable graduate.
