Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

International recognition for adjunct staff member 

Recently-retired Ken Appleton, now an adjunct Associate Professor with the Faculty of Education & Creative Arts, will receive an award at the next Association for the Education of Teachers in Science (AETS) annual meeting in Nashville, from January 7-11 next year.

PhotoID:1039 It will be the first time the award has been presented to someone outside the USA and Canada.

The AETS has notified Dr Appleton he will receive an Honorary Emertius Award. He will receive a plaque and a tribute in the Awards Issue of the Journal of Science Teacher Education.

According to the association, election as an Honorary Emeritus Member is the highest recognition as it has the power to confer.

The AETS serves educators involved in the professional development of teachers of science.
