Angus gets cogs moving towards engineering career

Moranbah High Year 10 student Angus May has a headstart towards his goal of becoming a mechanical engineer, thanks to CQUniversity's SUN (Start Uni Now) program.
The keen teen has already completed a university-level engineering drafting course at HD level and intends to enrol in another engineering program next year, while continuing his school subjects, including the 'favourites': maths, graphics and geography.
"At the moment I am in the process of completing my Senior Education & Training Plan (SET plan) and deciding which subjects to study in Years 11 and 12," Angus said.
"The SUN program has given me a great insight into the way a University works and the type of study and assignments that are done throughout a course.
"The program through CQUniversity has definitely further inspired me to pursue my career in mechanical engineering and to head on to university after school.
"I'd like to thank Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) for sponsoring me for my studies through the SUN program and the staff at Moranbah State High School for their support."
Angus says he does have interests outside school and university: mountain biking, freestyle BMX and dirt bike riding. He also enjoys camping with his family, "especially anywhere near the ocean".
The SUN program gives eligible high school students an opportunity to enrol in university courses while they are still at school. Details are available via 13 27 86 or www.cqu.edu.au/sun
