Gladstone campus puts careers under spotlight

CQU graduate Nathan Barrett talks to some interested students about careers in BusinessThe first in a series of career information sessions was held at CQU Gladstone campus this week.
The sessions were organised by Student Services counsellor, Pam Brown and aim to provide some in-depth information on what it's like to study and work in particular career areas.
The first of 6 sessions was held on Monday and covered professions in the Business and Information Technology fields.
A number of guest speakers including CQU graduates and current students, spoke to the group and answered questions on study and work.
Guest speakers for Business included Nathan Barrett, a CQU business graduate and current postgraduate student. Nathan is combining his postgraduate studies with full-time work as a recruitment consultant with Downing Teal.
Current business students Megan Lutton and Jane French talked to the group about the practicalities of studying.
The group also heard from Information Technology student Helen Crandall who spoke about her experiences as a mature-age student and the opportunities to work while studying through the Co-Op program.
The next session will be held on Monday August 13 and will focus on careers in Human Services including psychology, social work and health.
CQU graduate Melissa Knight will talk about her experience as a graduate psychologist and postgraduate student Karen Koomen will talk about careers in the Occupational Health and Safety field.
