Mackay hosts science films

The best and brightest science films can be seen at CQUniversity Mackay on August 16-17 in conjunction with National Science Week.

SCINEMA, a science film, video and multimedia festival, brings a program of amazing films on topics ranging from climate change, human health and natural history, to broader social films.

SCINEMA director, CSIRO's Cris Kennedy, says SCINEMA shows a human side to science and is aimed at promoting and raising the public level of science literacy.

"This festival shows how science is making our quality of life better all around the world and how science is working to redress the problems that we have created with the environment," Mr Kennedy says.

The festival was launched in 2000 as a celebration of science through the medium of film, and tours to over 150 towns and cities across Australia.

SCINEMA gives many filmmakers an opportunity to have their films, sometimes obscure but always terrific, be seen by an audience.

In addition to the film screenings, the University will also be showcasing the educational opportunities in the field of science.

SCINEMA is a partnership between Australia's CSIRO and Cosmos Magazine and will be showcased at CQUniversity Mackay on August 16-17, starting from 1pm daily.
