Central Queensland University chemistry graduate, Ian McNeilly returned to study this week after 10 years working in the Research and Development department at Queensland Alumina Limited.
Mr McNeilly accepted a University Postgraduate Research Award to undertake a research higher degree at CQU’s Process Engineering and Light Metals complex.
He is embarking on a 3-year PhD research project under the supervision of Associate Professor Dave Druskovich, Dr Alex Deev and Professor Richard Clegg.
“I’ll be studying the stability of protective corrosion films formed on metal surfaces under intense flow conditions,” said Mr McNeilly.
The project will utilise a novel rotating Parallel Disc Device (PDD) recently developed at the PELM Centre by Dr Alex Deev and others. This device will enable Ian to perform corrosion testing studies under the very severe flow conditions experienced in many industrial environments.
