Planning underway across University

Work is currently being undertaken across the University on Specialist Management Plans and Organisational Unit Plans.

This follows approval of a revised Strategic Plan for 2007-2011 and the 2007 Annual Operational Plan (both approved by the CQU Council in December 2006).

This revision reflected the need to modify the strategic plan to enable it to be aligned with the performance reporting approach of the University and to put the plan into action through an Annual Operational Plan (as required under the Financial Management Standard 1997).

The plan outlines key goals, objectives and strategies. The Strategic Plan also discusses reporting and performance measurement against these activities.

In order to put the Strategic Plan into operation, and as a legislative requirement, CQU has developed an Annual Operational Plan for 2007.

The 2007 Annual Operational Plan specifies key priorities, activities and performance measures to be completed during the calendar year. The Annual Operational Plan translates the broad direction of the Strategic Plan into more immediate priorities and activities.

The key areas which are focused upon in both the Strategic Plan and the Annual Operational Plan are:

Organisational Perspectives

The Strategic Planning Framework for the University is detailed in the Planning Policy (see the CQU Policy website). A diagram representing the planning framework is given below.

Specialist Management Plans focus on areas of core University activity, or administrative activities of high strategic importance, which require consolidation and aligned cross-University activity. Each Specialist Management Plan is a rolling 4-year plan, reviewed and updated yearly. As such, they each cover the next year in detail and include reference (generally briefly) to indicative strategies for the next years.

Organisational Unit Plans outline how each organisational unit will implement components of the Strategic Plan as emphasised within the Annual Operational Plan and the Specialist Management Plans. These are expected to be developed for each faculty, division and campus. They may also be developed for other areas such as offices or units as requested by the relevant member of the Vice-Chancellor's Executive.

A Guide to Planning and Reporting is available from the Office of the Executive Director (Corporate Services). More information is can be found in the Planning Policy, the Strategic Plan and the Annual Operational Plan, which are all available on the CQU Policy website.
