Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Emerald campus librarian wins festival art competition

Central Queensland University Emerald's very own Librarian and Arts Lecturer, Bronwyn Finnen was awarded the major prize of $1000 at the recent Sunflower Festival Annual Art Competition. 

About 120 people attended a wine and cheese evening at the Emerald Artists Centre for the opening of the festival exhibition on April 6.

The major sponsor for the event was Central Queensland University Emerald, and other sponsors included BMA, Harris, Houlihan & Holzwart, Emerald Office National and Kestrel Coal. 

With the Emerald Arts Group Inc and the Emerald Sunflower Festival Committees as partners in presenting the evening, Bronwyn was recognised by her peers for her talent with a Pastel Landscape of the Central Highlands Region.

During the evening, other awards for landscape art, oil and acrylic painting, pastels, pottery, sculpture and woodwork and photography were also presented along with 3 awards for juniors in open art categories. 

Awards were presented by judges and the efforts of the local arts community was applauded by the Sunflower Committee and local Councillors.

The exhibition will remain open at the Emerald Artists Centre until the end of April.
