Web-based project encourages walkers to take 10 billion steps

The 20,000 members of the 10,000 Steps health promotion website have now recorded a combined 10.7 billion steps.

10,000 Steps is funded by Queensland Health and supported by key partners Central Queensland University and the University of Queensland, with its project office at CQU.

PhotoID:2966 10,000 Steps Rockhampton was Australia's first 'whole of community' health promotion physical activity project. As a result of the success in the pilot city of Rockhampton, the project is now rolling out across Australia by allowing other communities to access the physical activity resources.

The project has been successful in assisting communities and workplaces to motivate and encourage individuals to increase their physical activity levels.

PhotoID:2967 The project's website also provides individuals with many interactive features such as a Step Log to record and monitor steps, individual challenges and a walking buddies system.
