NTID Key messages

- The ASC's NTID program is searching for the next generation of Aussie sports stars.
- The program is looking to give more Australians a sporting chance at the elite level and a chance for them to explore their potential and is not just focussed on Olympic success.
- Australia, through the AIS and the SIS/SAS networks, is better equipped than other countries to fast-track athletes to success.
- The program is looking for results at the 2012 London Olympic Games and beyond.
- The program will contribute to the development of coaches in this country, with approximately 60 coaches involved in the program once all projects are underway.
- The program produces bottom-up pressure to improve the performance of existing elite athletes in high performance programs across various sports.
- Skills developed in particular sports can be transferred to others, and the NTID program will offer athletes who are looking for further sporting chances the opportunity to explore these.
- Talent identification activities at the AIS have already resulted in success at an Olympic level. The NTID program, learning from these experiences is credible, and will continue to contribute to Australia's sporting success.
- Taking into consideration Australia's relatively small talent pool (compared to other nations such as the US, UK and China), it is more important than ever that we work smarter in the area of athlete identification and development, and the NTID program is crucial to this effort.
