Rockhampton women shown path to career prospects

Women wanting to improve their career prospects by returning to study attended an information session on Thursday, April 6 in Rockhampton.

Health and nursing are among several job sectors with bountiful openings for qualified graduates.

Those who attended the session spoke to current students undertaking the Women into Science and Technology (WIST) bridging program at CQU.

Since 1989, over 4500 women have undertaken WIST Women, which provides a second chance for university enrolment.

WIST coordinator Robyn Donovan said: "The program provides women with a self-paced study at home option which enables them to apply for a Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) ranking. The WIST program is designed to fit in with women’s family, work and other responsibilities".

Rebekah Buxton, a current WIST student said: "I’m so pleased with the personal benefits that I have already gained from this course. This program will give me what I need to enrol in a Human Resources degree".

Details of the information session are available from WIST coordinator Robyn Donovan on 4930 9341 or email wist@cqu.edu.au .
