Anything Goes on stage in Mackay

Mackay residents can look forward to four days of Anything Goes thanks to CQUniversity.

The University's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music production of the musical Anything Goes will take to the stage next Thursday to Sunday.

Thursday August 5 - 11am
Friday August 6 - 11am & 7:30pm
Saturday August 7 - 2pm & 7:30pm
Sunday August 8 - 2pm

Anything Goes tells the story of two blokes who are to appear in a Broadway show together and, while in Paris, discover the perfect leading lady for the female role.

Each promises the prize role to the girl they selected without informing the other until they had come back across the Atlantic by liner - with each man having brought his choice along.

It becomes a stormy crossing as each man has to tell his ‘find' that she might not get the role after all.

Anything Goes will be staged at CQUniversity's CQCM Theatre

bookings via Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre 4961 9700.

CQUniversity's Head of School of Creative and Performing Arts, Associate Professor Donna Brien said the University regularly employs industry professionals to mentor its students and direct its major productions.

"Throughout the Conservatorium's history, our students and staff, and the productions they stage, have benefited from the energy and expertise of the visiting directors who work with us to present these world standard productions to our audiences.

"Our Mackay students participate in two full-scale main stage productions each year under the close mentorship of a professional director and our dedicated academic staff, each of who also has considerable experience as a professional performer."

Anything Goes has been directed and choreographed by Thern Reynolds, an Australian entertainment professional who has worked on stage as well as on the small and big screens.

His stage performances have included the original Australian production and tour of 42nd Street and later West Side Story, Miss Saigon, My Fair Lady, The Boy from Oz and RENT. He has also had international success as the starring role of Cherries Man for the European Tour of Broadway hit musical FOSSE, followed by the lead role in Mind the Gap and later Chicago.

Since returning to Australia in 2004, Thern has played Joseph in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - his most loved role to date. He has also worked on the film Moulin Rouge and De-Lovely, the Cole Porter story and has numerous television credits including the Logies, People's Choice Awards, The Midday Show and Hey Hey It's Saturday. He has also danced with recording artists Kylie Minogue, Christine Anu, Tom Jones and Kate Ceberano.

Thern will be supported by CQUniversity's Garrick Jones and Kim Kirkman, as artistic and music director respectively.

The production is sure to be a big hit with a huge assortment of talent on offer.

Admission costs: Adults $30, Concession $25, Con Friends $20, Students/Children $15, Family (2 Adults & 2 Children) - $80.
