CQU welcomes Review report on Melbourne Campus

Central Queensland University has welcomed the report from a Victorian Government Review into its Melbourne International Campus, released on Friday August 24.

CQU Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Angela Delves said the review into the integrity and quality of CQU's Melbourne International Campus was initiated following student protests earlier this year.

The review findings were released today and the Review panel reached 3 broad conclusions:

  1. There was no evidence of non-compliance by CQU or its Melbourne International Campus with the ESOS National Code.
  2. The Review Panel concurred with the findings of the earlier Carson Report that claims of fundamental failures in process and deliberate exploitation could not be sustained. It found that CQU has responded to some Carson Report recommendations for clarification of related policy and adjustment to process.
  3. There are aspects of the CQU/C_MS business model and pedagogical issues rooted in the process of curriculum development and assessment that leave the University vulnerable to complaints. CQU must address the vulnerabilities as a matter of priority and report definitive changes to the Victorian Registration and Qualification Authority by November 2007.

"I welcome the Report and its exoneration of our practices and quality. While much of the Report was extremely positive, in common with all universities CQU must continue the process of improvement and the Review has provided us with valuable direction about priority areas," Professor Delves said.
