Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Engineering graduate proud of podium finish in South Pacific round 

Engineering graduate Chanelle Harvey has expressed pride in her 'runner-up' placement, during the recent South Pacific round of the Present Around the World competition.

Competitors were required to present their final-year engineering thesis to an audience and panel of judges assembled in New Zealand, vying to compete in the United Kindgom for the world title.

Chanelle's thesis was entirely her own work completed at CQUniversity as an industry thesis* for Ergon Energy (her current employer).

Chanelle received second place (runner up), which places her #1 in Australia, #2 in the South Pacific and in the top 8 of the world.

"The judges said it was extremely close between the winner and I. It would have been nice to compete in the next stage, but I am still proud of myself regardless," she said. "I am particularly happy to have finished in the top 8 of the world."

* The thesis details alternative proposals to support network load growth in the rapidly expanding coastal residential suburb of Bucasia in Mackay, being representative of a number of communities experiencing similar growth rates in the State during the current levels of economic development.
