National sports courses come to Rockhampton

Rockhampton’s sporting community are reaping the benefits of belonging to a university city by gaining access to nationally accredited courses.
CQU’s School of Health and Human Performance is providing the public with access to industry-recognised short courses which previously had been reserved for students of CQU’s Bachelor of Human Movements Science degree.
Commencing in May, the public can study the Level 1 Strength & Conditioning and General Coaching Principles courses. Other courses also on offer are AUSTSWIM, Certificate III in Fitness, Disability Education Program and Level I Sports Trainer.
Students studying the Bachelor of Human Movement Science degree are offered these short courses as part of their degree.
Coordinator of the short courses, Industry Liaison Officer, Alex Bright said these courses provide students with the industry-recognised skills to work in any area of the health, fitness or sports industry.
“Our students are graduating with tertiary education and industry qualifications; a strong mix that makes them a highly employable graduate,” Ms Bright said.
“And we now are able to offer the sporting community access to some of these courses for their professional development.”.
Degree students have also recently commenced the annual Certificate III Fitness course in conjunction with the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE for students interested in working in the health and fitness industry.
A record number of students have enrolled in the course this year and with good reason – over 75% of students who completed the course last year have gained employment in the fitness industry.
