Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Sydney graduates awarded leadership award

Congratulations to Campus Leadership Award recipients Shan Xu and Bhawana Nagpal.

The worthy graduates accepted the prestigious award at the Sydney International Graduate Campus Graduation ceremony held at the Sydney Town Hall earlier this month.

Shan Xu from China achieved impressive results, including 3 high distinctions and 5 distinctions in the competitive Master of Accounting Program.

With a previous Bachelor and Masters in Environmental Science, Christina adapted well to the accounting program. She enjoyed subjects such as Law and Finance and found group work a challenge where she gained new skills and made friends.

In addition to outstanding academic results, Christina gained full-time employment with Australia Post during her studies. She utilised the TECC department and gained confidence in applying for jobs and interviews. She has also participated in some volunteer work for Greenpeace, an area she has great interest in.

The other award recipient, Bhawana Nagpal from Haryana, India, achieved outstanding academic success with a GPA of 6.0 in her Masters in Information Systems.

As one of very few females in her class, Bhawana has overcome many obstacles including adapting to a totally new and foreign education system to achieve her great results.

During her studies, Bhawana began work experience in Australia by volunteering in an IT helpdesk role which lead to a part-time job in her industry. Bhawana has recently accepted a position with a leading Australian computer manufacturer, Optima Technology Solutions.

We wish both Shan and Bhawana the very best in their future endeavours including new beginnings of life in Australia.
