Gladstone Campus opens doors to community

Thousands of visitors enjoyed the entertainment, activities and cuisine at last Sunday’s CQU Gladstone Open Day and Gladstone Multicultural Festival.
CQU Gladstone Community Relations Officer, Shannon Law said organisers of both events where extremely happy with the day.
“Insurance problems meant the Festival couldn’t go ahead last year and we were anticipating a possible decline in crowd numbers, but the Gladstone community came out in droves.
This year’s celebrations were particularly special for the Gladstone campus as 2003 marks the 25th year of the University’s presence in the community.
A lunch was held for past graduates and local historian and CQU graduate, Dr Grace Johansen launched her commemorative booklet on the history of the Gladstone campus.
The younger visitors were kept busy with the Faculty of Engineering’s bridge spaghetti bridge building challenges and the Faculty of Informatics & Communications novelty diplomas. Torres Strait Islander, Seaman Dan joined CQU’s Karl Neuenfeldt to entertain the crowds with songs and stories of the maritime industries of tropical Australia.
The winner of the Pentium II computer donated by IPEX was local boy Jurak Massey.
