Lorna loves studying in Australia thanks to AusAID scholarship

Moving to Australia to study a Masters of Information Technology degree is one of the best decisions Papua New Guinea's Lorna Denema has ever made.

"I just love Australia and I have really enjoyed my time here so far," said Lorna, who hopes one day to work in the country after graduating from her degree.

Lorna is studying at CQUniversity in Rockhampton in Central Queensland, an opportunity that was made possible through an AusAID scholarship. The scholarship finances Lorna's course fees and living expenses.

Recently joined by her two children, Nicky, 6, and Penninah, 10, Lorna has recently begun her second year of study in Australia and will complete the program at the end of the year.

"I am really glad my children are now here ... they are attending the local primary school and are making some new friends. Their arrival has motivated me to keep studying."

Lorna is a former nurse in PNG who already has a Bachelor of Business (Information Systems and Management) degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning.   Before coming to Australia, she was working as a tutor in information systems at the Divine Word University in Madang.

Obtaining her Masters qualifications in Australia will empower her to pursue a career in network security back in her home country or, if the opportunity arises, in Australia.

"The degree is helping me build up my professional knowledge base, research skills and the ability to deal effectively with issues involving the application of information technology in a critical analytical approach."

Meanwhile, Lorna is enjoying the Australian climate, culture and food, saying that she likes everything about the country.

CQUniversity has a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs available to AusAID students at various locations throughout Australia.
