Bundy High Schoolers Shadow LynX Students

CQU Bundaberg played host to 30 high school students who participated in the 2002 Shadowing Program last month.

The Shadowing Program invites Year 12 students onto campus for two days during which they “shadow” current university students (or LynX students).

Students had the chance to expand their awareness of tertiary courses offered at the CQU Bundaberg and to gain insight into university life.

They attended lectures/tutorials in their areas of interest, information sessions with course advisors and student services staff. These experiences provided further insights into study expectations and support systems. Students also received a certificate for their participation in the program.

Some of the courses they were exposed to included: Health & Physical Education, Learning Management, Managing Diversity, Foundations of Business Computing, Communication & Culture, Introduction to Journalism, Business for Tourism, Professional Writing, Environmental Science, Bio-Physical Foundations, Introductory Sociology, Health & Community as well as Popular Genres.

It was evident the high school students enjoyed their university experience from the feedback received through debriefing sessions.

CQU Bundaberg hopes to run another program next semester, but this time targetting isolated secondary schools for a one-day session.
